Beds and bedroom pieces
A bed is made to your mattress, not to a showroom size — tell us what you have or what you intend to buy and the frame is built around it. Slatted and panelled headboards are the two we make most; a slatted teak headboard suits a room that already has a lot of laminate in it, because the grain gives the eye somewhere to rest. Storage underneath is either hydraulic lift-up for the full box or side drawers where the wall behind is tight. Side tables and a dressing unit are usually made at the same time so the finish matches exactly rather than approximately.
Dining, study and living pieces
Dining tables are built for the room rather than the catalogue — a six-seater needs roughly 6 by 3 feet of top with about 3 feet clear all round to pull a chair out, and that clearance is what decides the size far more often than the number of seats does. We make matching chairs and benches, and we will happily make a top to go on your own base or a base for a stone top you already have. Beyond dining: study and work-from-home tables with cable routing, entrance consoles, shoe racks and low side storage.
Solid wood, or ply and veneer
Solid teak is the right choice for a piece you want to keep — it takes a repair, it can be re-polished decades later, and the weight of it is obvious the moment you move it. It costs more and it moves slightly with the seasons, which is why frames are jointed rather than simply screwed. Plywood with veneer or laminate costs less, stays dimensionally still and is easier to match to an existing wardrobe or kitchen finish. Most houses end up with both: solid for the bed and dining table, ply-and-veneer for the pieces that have to match joinery already in the room. We will tell you which we would use where, and why.
Common questions
- Solid teak or plywood with veneer — which should I choose?
- Solid teak for a bed or dining table you intend to keep, since it can be repaired and re-polished. Plywood with veneer or laminate costs less and is easier to match to an existing wardrobe or kitchen, and is a sensible choice for consoles, study tables and side units.
- Can furniture be made to match my wardrobes and kitchen?
- Yes — it is made in the same workshop, so we can match the laminate, veneer or PU shade used on your joinery. This is the main reason customers have us make the furniture rather than buying it in.
- Will the bed be made to fit my mattress?
- Yes. Every bed is built around the mattress size you give us, with hydraulic lift-up or drawer storage underneath depending on how much space there is behind and beside the bed.
